What It Means to Be Certified Organic

Highly regulated organic certifications, such as Ecocert and Pro-Cert as well as the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) organic seal, confirm standards that certified organic wines need to have.

Certified organic wines are required to meet certain standards in order to qualify and claim organic certification, including:

All crops such as grapes and other agricultural ingredients must be certified organic
Crops cannot use synthetic pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, or sewage sludge
Crops cannot be irradiated or genetically engineered
Non-agricultural ingredients must not exceed 5% of the total product
